From there, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is just a 3-hour drive away, accessed through the Ishaha sector.   • The 15 Days East Africa Safari involves hiking moderately steep slopes searching for the mountain gorillas at altitudes between 1,160 and 2,607 metres above sea level. Please consider your fitness levels before embarking on this trip.
  • There are strict guidelines for meeting the gorillas and chimps, and you’ll be escorted by a tracker, rangers, and a guide with a group of other seven trekking travelers.
  • Wildlife viewing, quantity, and species of animals seen are dependent upon local conditions, including weather, wind, and seasonal migration patterns.
  • Flying between destinations minimizes your travel time and is less tiring than driving. However, we’ll still use 4×4 safari vehicles between safari parks.
  • Agility is required to embark and disembark the balloon basket. Balloon flights vary but are usually between 45 minutes and an hour. 

A Detailed 15 Days East Africa Safari

Day 1:

Arrival at Entebbe International Airport

Your 15 Days East Africa Safari starts! After landing at Entebbe International Airport, you will meet your private guide and be transferred to The Boma Hotel Entebbe, a colonial-style property surrounded by lush gardens. It provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere to start your adventure.

Relax by the pool or enjoy a refreshing drink on the veranda knowing that you’ll be going to the jungle the next day.

Day 2:

Transfer to Kibale National Park

After a sumptuous breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Kibale National Park on a scenic road trip with stopovers so you can stretch your legs and have lunch. You will have the opportunity to explore the crater lakes, which are located 30 km south of Fort Portal town, between the main Fort Portal–Kasese road and Kibale National Park.

Upon arrival, check in at Primate Lodge, located directly adjacent to the Kanyanchu Visitor Center – the starting point of most treks and walks in Kibale Forest.

The Park is popular for its diverse primates including red-tailed, colobus, L’Hoest and vervet monkeys, baboons, and numerous bird species, some of which you’ll encounter as you track the chimps.

Day 3:

Chimpanzee Tracking 

After an early morning breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the Kanyanchu visitor Centre, which is usually the starting point of all chimpanzee treks in Kibale Forest. After briefing, you will be led by expert ranger guides into the forest jungle to have the chance to spend one hour watching the antics of these fascinating apes in their natural habitat.

Did you know that chimps share about 98.8% of DNA with humans? Along the way, keep a look out for 12 other primate species which call the forest home. After lunch, you can take a 2-3 hour guided walk of the Bigodi wetland to explore an incredible birdlife including the Great Blue Turaco and several primate species.

Day 4:

Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Queen Elizabeth National Park on a scenic 3-hour road trip. The park is famed for its beautiful scenery and varied wildlife, and shares its western border with Lake Edward. Enjoy an afternoon game drive, during which you’ll hopefully spot incredible big game species, including the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha.

Day 5:

Boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel

You will carry packed breakfast and go on an early morning game drive (around 6-7 AM) to spot early risers, nocturnal mammals heading to their dens before the heat sets in, and predators starting their day. The game drive takes about 3 hours on the Kasenyi or Mweya plains.

After lunch, you will be transferred to the Kazinga Channel for an exciting boat cruise. The channel is a magnet for all the wildlife in the park. You will have close-up views of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffalo, and abundant birdlife. The boat cruise also offers a good platform for photography. It takes between 2 and 3 hours and then you return to the lodge.

Day 6:

Transfer to Bwindi

After a sumptuous breakfast, you will drive through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park to spot the tree-climbing lions and then proceed south towards the mist-shrouded mountains of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, one of the last remaining homes of the endangered mountain gorillas. You will have a lunch break en-route and then connect to Silverback Lodge in Buhoma sector, a luxury eco-lodge with front-row access to gorilla trekking and panoramic views of the forest.

Day 7:

Gorilla Trekking Experience

Today, you’ll be transferred to the park headquarters and once your through with registration and briefing, you’ll be led into the forest by an expert tracker, armed rangers and 7 other trekking travelers to search for a family of habituated mountain gorillas.

The hike itself is a treat, involving walking through an ancient, pristine and dense forest but worth every penny. Meeting a silverback in its natural habitat unexpectedly is one of the most captivating lifetime experiences. You’ll spend an hour watching them groom themselves, munch on fruit, leaves and shoots, and see the infants at play.

After a long day of hiking, you may take a community tour to meet the Batwa people of Bwindi, or you can enjoy a relaxing soak in your suite’s deep bathtub as the sun sets and listen to local songs by a roaring campfire.

Day 8:

Fly to Masai Mara National Reserve

Wake up to a sumptuous breakfast and you’ll be transferred to Kihihi Airstrip for a scenic flight to Entebbe International Airport. A representative will be waiting to help you board another flight to Kisumu Airport, and an onward flight to Masai Mara.

Aerolink Uganda operates daily flights from Entebbe to Masai Mara at 12:15 and arrives at 14:30. After touching down at Kichwa Tembo Airstrip in Masai Mara, you’ll be met by your Kenya driver guide, who’ll transfer you to Sanctuary Olonana for dinner and will be your base for the next two days.

Day 9-10:

Full-day game drives in Masai Mara

Over the next two days, get immersed in the rhythms of the wild, with twice daily game drives unraveling thrilling encounters and unforgettable experiences. If you visit in the dry months from late June to October, you’ll have the best opportunities to witness the epic drama of the wildebeest migration given that you’ll be based on the banks of the Mara River.

Venture beyond the safari vehicle and explore the wilderness on foot with your knowledgeable guide to uncover and appreciate the little things of the wild. You can take to the skies on a hot air balloon flight to view the plains from a different perspective.

Day 11-12:

Explore the Serengeti 

After a hearty breakfast, you’ll pack food from the lodge’s cafeteria for your journey and exit the Mara via the Olololo Gate in Mara West, heading towards the Isebania border crossing. You’ll clear customs at Isebania, which allows passage to Tanzania and entry into the Serengeti.

From Tarime, a border town in Tanzania, you’ll board a light aircraft to Serengeti National Park. Upon arrival at the airstrip, you’ll be met and transferred to Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp—a chic and modern camp with front row seats for viewing the rumbling migration herds and ever-present predators.

You will enjoy game drives, led by experienced guides, as well as bush walks and birdwatching, all within close proximity to the Great Migration.

Day 13-14:

Explore the Ngorongoro

After a sumptuous breakfast, you will pack your lunch and take your last dose of game viewing as you drive towards Ngorongoro Crater. You will take a stop at the Olduvia Gorge, a key paleoanthropological site popular for its historical significance and beautiful landscape. The journey also passes through Maasai villages, providing a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of this iconic tribe.

Approaching the Ngorongoro Crater, the landscape transforms into a lush, green paradise surrounding the crater rim, with grazing wildlife visible in the distance. The Manor at Ngorongoro, a luxury lodge known for its Cape Dutch architecture and providing a peaceful, elegant retreat and a tranquil setting amidst rolling hills, will be your base for two nights.

The next day after breakfast, you will descend 600 metres onto the crater floor, and marvel at this volcanic caldera’s unique ecosystem, home to a dense concentration of wildlife, including the rare black rhinoceros.

Day 15:

Departure (Ngorongoro to Arusha)

After a hearty breakfast, you may lazily pack up and depart the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, winding through picturesque landscapes, providing a final opportunity to soak in the beauty of Tanzania’s diverse landscape. You will be dropped off at a hotel of your choice or at the airport for your onward flight back home.

  • Travelers with special needs may be required to pay an extra fee for necessary facilitations.
  • The minimum age for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking is 15 years.
  • Porters are available for hire at a cost of about $20. They can be found during the briefing or at the starting point of the trek. Some of these porters are former poachers who have now been given a chance to earn a living by helping tourists trek gorillas.
