3 Days Golden Monkey Trekking Safari

After a delightful breakfast, you’ll be picked up from your lodge and transferred to Kisoro in southwestern Uganda. It’s a scenic road trip winding through rolling hills, cultivated terraces, tea plantations, and charming local villages, offering a glimpse into Ugandan rural life. Finally, the magnificent Virunga Volcanoes will come into view, marking your arrival at the park.

You’ll check in at Mount Gahinga Lodge, a premier luxury lodge tucked away at the base of the Virunga Volcanoes. It is the ideal base for starting your gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking, and volcano hiking adventures. You can relax in preparation for your trekking and hiking excursions the next day.

Alternatively, you can take a scenic charter flight from Entebbe International Airport to Kisoro airstrip.

You’ll be transferred to the park headquarters at Ntebeko visitor center for a briefing by 7:30 am. It is just a 10-minute walk from Gahinga Lodge. Your driver can take you, or you can simply start the adventure with a short walk.

After the briefing, the golden monkey excursion begins at roughly 8:00 am. Led into the forest by a tracker guide and two gun-bearing rangers, you’ll ascend the slopes of the volcano to find a group of golden monkeys.

Upon locating them, you’ll be allowed one hour to spend watching their antics and social behaviors as they jump in the trees or curiously come closer to you than expected. Enjoy every moment in their presence while following instructions from your lead guide.

After breakfast, you’ll start your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe enjoying Uganda’s breathtaking countryside.
