Detailed 7 Days Uganda Wildlife Safari Itinerary

Day 1:

Transfer to Gulu

After a delightful breakfast, you’ll meet your driver guide, have a brief overview of your tour and begin the scenic road trip to Gulu in northern Uganda. You’ll see pockets of diminishing rain forests, savanna woodlands and grasslands, water bodies (the River Nile), and emerging semi-arid areas. You’ll have a quick lunch stop along the way before arriving in the evening.

Day 2:

From Gulu to Kidepo Valley National Park

After a hefty breakfast, you’ll take a scenic road trip to Kidepo Valley National Park while watching the changing landscapes. This is where the region merges savannah grasslands with semi-arid biomes. Upon arrival at the park, you’ll check in at Apoka Safari Lodge, a high-end property built around a picturesque rocky outcrop overlooking the Narus Valley.

Day 3:

Game drives and visiting the Kanangorok hot springs

Kidepo ranks among Africa’s finest wildernesses featuring dramatic landscapes. From Apoka, at the heart of the park, the vast golden savanna extends in all directions towards horizons outlined by distant mountain ranges.

The park is home to diverse wildlife including those not found elsewhere in the country, such as cheetahs, aardwolves, caracals, mountain reedbucks, Guenther’s dik-diks and the Rothschild’s giraffes as well as cultural groups like the Karamojong and Ik.

You’ll enjoy exciting game drives along the Narus Valley, the park’s prime game-viewing area. It offers a reliable water source that attracts large concentrations of wildlife. You’ll also explore Kidepo valley, and the Kanangorok Hot Springs.

Day 4:

Visiting a Karamojong homestead and back to Gulu

The morning excursion is a cultural experience with the Karamojong in Karena and Kapedo. They are one of the tribes in East Africa that have not embraced modern culture wholly. They are nomadic pastoralists whose lives are centered on their cattle. Historically, they were known as notorious cattle raiders.

During the experience, you’ll learn about their ancient traditions, music and dance. Unlike most Ugandans, many Karamojong shun western-style clothes and instead wear “traditional” dress of a blanket-like shawl, often in red and black, with women wearing elaborate beadwork.

Day 5:

Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

After an early breakfast, you’ll drive to Gulu town and then connect to Murchison Falls National Park through the northern sector. You will see lots of wildlife on your way to the lodge including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, and aquatic birds.

Day 6:

Game drives and boat cruise

Murchison Falls National Park is the largest and one of the oldest parks in Uganda. It is bisected by the Victoria Nile, which plunges 45m over the remnant rift valley wall, creating the dramatic Murchison waterfall, the park’s signature attraction and the final event in an 80km stretch of rapids. The mighty cascade drains the last of the river’s energy, transforming it into a broad, placid stream that flows quietly across the rift valley floor into Lake Albert.

With diverse wildlife, the park is one of the strongholds of the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe in East Africa. After a sumptuous breakfast, you will embark on a 3–4-hour game drive on the northern side of the park and a scenic boat cruise in the afternoon to the bottom of the dramatic waterfall, and then hike to the top of the falls.

Day 7:

Back to Kampala via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After a sumptuous breakfast, you’ll check out of the lodge and embark on a 6-hour road trip to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking before transferring to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.
