Detailed 7 Days Kenya and Uganda Safari
Day 1:
Transfer to Masai Mara
Your scenic short-haul flight will take you from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Ol Kiombo Airstrip. After touching down, you’ll be transferred to Rekero Camp, a charming, authentic seasonal safari retreat set on a pristine meander of the Talek River, overlooking a prime crossing point of the wildebeest. Spend the afternoon at leisure before going on an evening game drive till dusk.
Accommodation: Rekero Camp
Meal Plan: Full Board
Days 2-3:
Explore the famed Masai Mara
The Masai Mara is famous for its seasonal wildebeest migration, with massive herds of ungulates passing through from late June to the beginning of November. It is also home to the Big Five and big cats, notably cheetahs, making it a highly rewarding destination all year round.
You have two days to enjoy scintillating, adventure-filled game drives with expert guides who’ll take you into the heart of the action. There are picnics in the wild, exciting bush walks, and optional hot-air balloon flights over the vast landscape. The balloon flight is a pre-dawn start, and you are rewarded with a well-deserved champagne breakfast.
You can also visit a local Maasai village on a cultural tour to learn more about the ancient warriors who have long trodden this land.
Day 4:
Transfer to Entebbe Airport
On the fourth day, after breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airstrip for your connecting flight to Entebbe, which typically includes a stopover in Kisumu (KIS). Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you’ll meet and greet your driver guide, then be transferred to The Boma Hotel, an exclusive hotel set in a leafy suburb, a few minutes’ drive from the airport.
Accommodation: The Boma Hotel
Meal Plan: Full Board
Days 5-6:
Transfer to Bwindi & thrilling Gorilla Trekking
After a night at The Boma, you’ll take a flight by light aircraft to Kihihi Airstrip, at the fringes of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After landing, you’ll be greeted by beautiful vistas of the tropical rainforest. Meet your driver guide and transfer to your camp through the fertile and lush Ugandan landscape past small farming communities and terraced hillsides en route. You’ll be introduced to the history, culture and way of life of the locals.
Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is a remote and atmospheric luxury mountain sanctuary spread over a series of steep ridges and valleys within Bwindi Forest. Located at the entrance, it provides an excellent vantage point to start your gorilla trek. Upon arrival at the camp, take some time to relax knowing you’ll be heading to the jungle the next day.
Accommodation: Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp
Meal Plan: Full Board
After a restful night’s sleep lulled by the sounds of the forest, you’ll rise early, take breakfast and set out on your excursion in search of the gentle giants. It’s a physical activity requiring a reasonable degree of fitness and a strong pair of hiking boots for muddy, humid and perhaps challenging conditions.
You’ll be accompanied by expert trackers and guides to find a family of habituated mountain gorillas, and you’ll be allowed to spend a maximum of an hour observing them feeding, foraging, playing, and interacting. On returning to the camp after a long day of trekking, soak your tired muscles in the deep bathtub and gaze out onto a breathtaking view of the forest as you relive the day’s adventures.
You can spend the rest of the time visiting the local village for an unforgettable Batwa experience, meeting an indigenous people who have inhabited the Bwindi Forest for thousands of years and have not forgotten the old ways of life.
