Detailed 4 Days Mara River Crossing Safari

Day 1:

Transfer to Serengeti (Kogatende)

After breakfast, your safari begins with a scenic scheduled flight from Arusha Airport to Kogatende Airstrip in Northern Serengeti. Upon arrival, our representative will welcome you and transfer you to Mara Mara Tented Lodge, a modern, clean-lined tented camp with a traditional African feel, situated in one of the Serengeti’s most coveted locations.

Day 2:

Full day river crossings in Northern Serengeti

Departing at 5:30 AM with packed breakfast, you’ll transfer to a prime crossing point based on overnight herd movements. Watch as herds gather courage on the riverbanks and observe massive Nile crocodiles patrolling the waters.

Enjoy a picnic lunch as you continue monitoring crossing activity and witnessing the dramatic chaos – crocodile attacks and panicked wildebeest. You’ll return to camp as the sun sets over the Mara River.

Day 3: 

Alternative crossing points & predator action

After a sumptuous breakfast, you’ll transfer to a different section of the Mara River (there are quite a number of crossing points). Your guide will choose the most active location.

Enjoy a picnic lunch near the river and keep tracking the herds moving toward crossing points. Focus on predator action around the crossing points, lions and leopards usually know where to wait. Return to camp for dinner and share the most dramatic moments of the day.

Day 4: 

Final crossing viewing and back to Arusha

Your final early morning river crossing session starts at 6:00 AM. You’re encouraged to make the most of your last few hours. Some crossings occur early morning as the herds become active after a restful night. Afterwards, you’ll return to camp for a late breakfast, pack up and be airlifted back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure.
