10 Days Gorilla Trekking and Wildebeest Migration safari Detailed Itinerary

Day 1:

Transfer to Bwindi

We assume you’re already in Kampala/Entebbe or flying in early in the morning before 9am. Your private driver guide will meet you at your hotel and brief you about the trip before hitting the road to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home of the endangered mountain gorillas in Uganda.

It’s a scenic 9–10-hour road transfer to Uganda’s southwestern region with stops at the equator to take amazing photos and witness a water experiment, and at the Igongo Cultural Center for lunch. You’ll then proceed with the journey, arrive in the evening, check-in at your lodge, have dinner, and enjoy a comfortable overnight sleep.

Alternatively, travelers not comfortable with the 9–10-hour road trip can take a charter morning flight from Entebbe to Kisoro, which takes about 1hr, 20 mins. Your driver guide will be there to receive and transfer you by road in a 4X4 jeep to your lodge in Nkuringo.

Day 2:

Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Experience

The long-awaited day is here! Your heart beats in the rhythm of the forest in anticipation of coming face to face with a 450-pound silverback. After a hefty breakfast, you’ll be driven to the park headquarters at 7.00 am for registration and briefing before the trek.

After the initial exercise, you’ll be led by experienced guides into the forest jungles, navigating dense foliage in search of the majestic mountain gorillas. The chances of seeing them are very good, as visitors will get to see these captivating apes over 90% of the time.

After finding them, you’ll spend one precious hour in their presence, witnessing their gentle nature yet powerful existence. Every moment will leave you spellbound. The cherished moments of trekking these gentle giants in their natural habitat is an unforgettable memory that transforms you forever.

After enjoying your time with the gorillas, you’ll return to the lodge for a hot lunch and to freshen up. In the evening, you can either enjoy a massage treat or visit the local community of the Batwa pygmies for an interactive cultural encounter. After the day’s adventures, you’ll relish the night in Bwindi, knowing you’ve touched the depths of the wild.

Day 3:

Scheduled Flight or Road Transfer to Entebbe International Airport and Flight to Kilimanjaro Airport

After a sumptuous breakfast, you’ll be transferred by road to Entebbe International Airport to catch your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha. You’ll arrive in the afternoon and check in at Arusha Serena Hotel for the night.

Alternatively, you may catch an early morning scheduled flight from Kisoro to Entebbe International Airport. On arrival, you will check-in at your day hotel to freshen up and relax as you wait to catch your onward flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport in the afternoon.

Days 4-5:

Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater

After a sumptuous breakfast at Arusha Serena Hotel, you will return to Arusha to catch a scheduled flight to Manyara Airstrip and a road transfer to the simple but comfortable Ngorongoro Crater Camp. It is set in a shady forest close to the crater rim itself, providing easy access on the crater floor. Enjoy an exhilarating encounter followed by a full day excursion the next day.

Ngorongoro Crater Camp

The steep-sided crater, also the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, is home to the densest concentration of mammalian species in Africa, including wildebeest (most abundant), zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, rhinos, and giant African elephants. It offers unrivaled big 5 sightings in Africa.

Another big drawcard to this picturesque wildlife habitat is the dense population of predators such as lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. After a day of adventure, return to your classic tented suite, enjoy your private bathroom with a hot-water bucket shower, and home-cooked meals served under the stars.

Days 6-7:

Transfer to Serengeti National Park

On this day, a charter flight from Manyara Airstrip to Serengeti will allow you time to check into your new camp and settle before embarking on your adventures.

Kichakani Serengeti Camp is ideal and specializes in wildebeest migration. The camp moves easily between three different locations to ensure guests enjoy grandstand views of actions, whether it is the massed herds on the move, the spectacular birthing season, or raw drama of the river crossings.

The tented suite features electric lighting, an en suite bathroom, and a private viewing balcony complete with easy chairs and a table so you can take breathtaking views of the unfettered Serengeti.

Embark on your long-awaited adventure in the Serengeti. This incredible park unravels its multiple casts of Africa’s big games on game drives, allowing you to sight an abundance of plains game and, of course, predators including big cats, wild dogs, hyenas and crocodiles. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives with expert guides in the heart of animal drama.

Days 8-9:

Transfer to Masai Mara

The journey to Masai Mara is a seamless fly-and-drive connection typically involving a short flight and road transfer but it won’t be long before you arrive and check into Rekero Camp. You will take a 30-minute flight from Serengeti to Tarime, a small airport near Isibania, then a short drive across the border to meet your Kenyan driver guide for transfer to the Mara.

Here, the border crossing is simple and hassle-free. Once again, you’ll be met by your Kenyan driver guide and transferred to Migori, another small airport, for your onward flight into Masai Mara. This drive is again around 30 minutes, and your flight will be anywhere from one to two hours.

Rekero Camp

Rekero Camp sits close to the confluence of the Mara and Talek rivers, in one of the most game-rich areas of the Mara. It is a deceptively simple eco-camp that is ideally situated for the annual migration and is your next destination.

The mobile camp is set up seasonally, from June to October and December to March. It features nine spacious tents, each en-suite with flush toilet, shower and a private terrace. A daybed invites you to have a quiet siesta after a morning or afternoon of adrenaline-inducing game viewing. You’ll also have a personal butler to attend to your needs.

Immerse yourself in the wonders of the Mara with a range of activities. Early mornings and late afternoons are considered the best times to spot animals since it is their most active time. Game drives with expert guides offer the opportunity to see incredible wildlife roaming the plains.

Big Five sighting is all-year-round and the wildebeest migration depends on the time of year you visit. Hot air balloon rides provide a unique perspective of the landscape and wildlife, while guided walks with Maasai warriors offer a glimpse into their local culture and way of life.

Day 10:

To Nairobi and Departure

Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast and an early morning game drive and then transfer to Nairobi for your onward flight arrangements back home.
