How to get to Uganda: To get to Uganda, you will most likely land at Entebbe International Airport (EBB), which is the normal entry point for flights into the country. It is Uganda’s only international airport situated on the northern shores of Lake Victoria in Entebbe, a well-equipped small town which lies 46km/29mi from the capital, Kampala.

Most visitors often choose to overnight in Entebbe on arrival, thanks to its wide variety of accommodation options ranging from luxury and mid-range to budget lodges as well as Airbnb vacation rentals.

Road Travel within Uganda

Uganda is a relatively compact country with a fairly developed road network, making road travel the primary way to get around. Main roads or highways are generally good, allowing quick and safe travels across regions. However, reaching certain places—such as gorilla parks in Kisoro situated at the far southwestern corner of the country—can take a considerably longer time from Kampala.

Some roads to national parks are of variable quality, usually of dirt and are often slow and bumpy, making travel a little slower.

Tourists can leave a forest lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for a morning flight from the Kihihi Airstrip (northern/eastern sectors) and have breakfast at Javas Cafe in Entebbe before catching their connecting flight back home at midday.

You can fly to either Kihihi or Kisoro to access Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and also connect to flights into Kasese Airport or Mweya Airport (outside Queen Elizabeth National Park). From Kasese, it is a 15-minute drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, a 1-hour drive to Semliki National Park, and about a 2.5-hour drive to Kibale National Park.
You can also fly from Entebbe to Pakuba, Bugungu, or Chobe Airstrips in Murchison Falls National Park and then connect to Kidepo Valley National Park or Mweya and Kihihi Airstrips in Kasese.

The remote Kidepo Valley National Park in the far northeast of the country is the only destination that is more often reached by air than by road.

More luxury safaris increasingly tend to include one or more flights, though they come at a high price. Typically, your local tour operator organizes charter flights as part of your safari package. They will collect you from the airport or hotel and transfer you to your safari destination.
